Supporting Victims

Supporting a victim

Providing support to victims is a priority for us.  We refer eligible victims to the National Probation Service who employs a dedicated team of Victim Liaison Officers who work with victims of sexual and violent offences.

This support enables victims and their families to be kept informed of the circumstances of the offender at every stage of their sentence and on release.  Any concerns or queries that the victim may have about the case can also be discussed during this period.

We also work directly with victims of crime by ensuring that they are referred and signposted for advice and support. This can include offenders who may also be victims of current or past crimes.

In addition, we work with offenders to impress upon them the impact that their crime has had upon victims personally or the wider community. Developing victim empathy in offenders is critical in reducing the likelihood of future reoffending.
